Reigning in further climate disruption isn’t just about changing light bulbs. This is a global problem requiring global solutions but here are some ways to join the Green Revolution.
1) Open your mind. Don’t let Big Oil cloud your vision on how renewable and sustainable fuels could help change everything and fast!
2) Divest from the fossil fuel industry. Go Green by insisting your town, college or IRA isn’t profiting from the fossil fuel industry. Dozens of cities are doing it. And there’s an exciting movement growing around the globe of people demanding their educational and investment institutions divest as well.
3) Sweat the small stuff! Stop taking soft, white, super-processed, old-growth tree trunks and flushing it down the toilet—the planet needs those magnificent trees a lot more than your fancy ass!
4) Don’t toss it, wash it. What’s with the ubiquitous use of paper (or worse, Styrofoam) cups and plates at parties and small gatherings? Wash the dishes, silly fishes!
5) Turn it off: the lights when you leave the room. The heat in the winter. The AC in the summer –do you really need to recreate your own mini disappearing North Pole!?
6) Turn it down: The pessimism. Banish the defeatism of cynical thinking that says we’re too small, they’re too big, it’s too far gone etc., etc. There is no Planet B.
7) Get embodied. Earthlings who honor and enjoy their own bodies are better stewards and protectors of all life on the planet. So move, breathe, and love it up…while you’re alive. Life is precious, and so is our planet.
8) Reduce, reuse and recycle. It’s a no-brainer. How is it possible that the United States, with less than 5 % of the global population, uses about a quarter of the world’s fossil fuel resources?
9)Â Plant a tree. A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.
10) Ride a bike. It’s fun!
